Return to the indexQ: What is RPM technology?
A: RPM (Resolution Performance Management) is Epson's technology for optimizing the placement of up to eight ink droplet sizes (six for 4-color printer models) on a grid up to 5760 dpi to deliver superior photo quality.
Return to the indexQ: What is 5760 x 720 optimized dpi using RPM technology?
A: 5760 x 720 optimized dpi is the highest addressable resolution that yields superior image quality and performance while keeping input files to a manageable size.
Return to the indexQ: What do you mean by manageable file sizes?
A: Epson printers typically need a file input size between 240 and 300 pixels per inch (ppi) to achieve maximum print quality.
An 8' x 10' photo at 240 ppi is approximately 13 MB. This is a manageable file size for most users.
Return to the indexQ: How do I select 5760 x 720 Optimized DPI Using RPM technology?
A: From Advanced menu on the printer driver, select Photo RPM. This setting is not available for all media types. For printers that support 5760 x 720, select Super Microweave to achieve the highest print quality.
Windows:
Return to the indexQ: Does Epson recommend Photo RPM for printing everyday photos?
A: For most photos and other print tasks, we recommend the default print settings for the paper type users have selected. By using the default print settings, users achieve both excellent image quality and faster print speeds. With Microsoft Windows, simply select the print task (Text, Photo, etc.) and then the paper type (Matte paper, Glossy Photo paper, etc). The printer driver will automatically set the appropriate print settings. Photo RPM is available in the Advanced menu for those exceptional print tasks where image quality is the primary consideration.
Return to the indexQ: What should I do if the printed image has horizontal banding?
A: Make sure you are using a compatible paper type. Verify the printable side of the paper is face up in the sheet feeder. Select your paper type in the printer driver menu and let the driver automatically set the print settings. Make sure the paper thickness lever is in the correct position for your paper type. Make sure your ink cartridges are not outdated. They should be replaced six months after installing them in the printer to ensure the ink is fresh.
If necessary, follow these steps to run the head cleaning utility and nozzle check:
1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing, and the red Error light is off. (If the Error light is flashing or on, you may need to replace an ink cartridge)

2. Windows:

Right-click the printer icon on your taskbar (in the lower right corner of your screen). Select Head Cleaning.
Macintosh OS 8.5.1 to 9.x:
Open your application's File menu and choose Page Setup or Print. Click the Utility button, then click the Head Cleaning button.
Macintosh OS X:
Epson C62 Driver
Open the Applications folder and double-click EPSON Printer Utility. Select C62 Series in the printer list, click OK, and select Head Cleaning.
3. Follow the instructions on the screen to clean the print head. Cleaning takes about 30 seconds, during which the printer makes some noise and the green power light flashes.
Caution: Never turn off the printer while the power light is flashing, unless the printer hasn't moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.
4. When the green power light stops flashing, make sure plain paper is loaded in the printer. Then click Print nozzle check pattern (Windows) or Confirmation (Macintosh) and follow the on-screen directions to print a nozzle check.
5. If the nozzle check pattern has no gaps in its lines, click Finish.
If the pattern has any gaps, click Clean to clean the print head again.
If you don't see any improvement after cleaning three or four times, check the solutions beginning on page 43 of your printer basics manual. You can also turn the printer off and wait overnight - this allows any dried ink to soften-and then try cleaning the print head again.
Return to the indexQ: The colors of my image on my monitor do not match the output from my printer. What is wrong?
A: First you must have an understanding of how color is produced. A monitor displays color by transmitting Red, Green and Blue (RGB) light into your eyes. A printer uses existing light to reflect Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and black (CYMK) light into your eyes. It is virtually impossible to have these two different color types (transmissive and reflective) match perfectly. Also, due to its transmissive nature, the monitor is able to display a much wider range of colors than a reflective product, such as a piece of paper with ink on it.
Most monitors are not calibrated for correct color display out of the box; they have to be calibrated to produce accurate colors. Adobe PhotoShop (not included) includes a basic monitor calibrator to do this; it is the Adobe Gamma utility. This utility is contained in the Control Panel in Windows and on the Macintosh.
Also, what type of color matching system (CMS) are you using when printing your image? The color matching system can greatly affect the output color of your image. For information on how to use the various color management system available, please check the CMS user documentation or the web site of the manufacturer.
To ensure that the images your Epson Color printer produces are as close as possible to the images displayed on your monitor you should do the following:
Calibrate your monitorExperiment with various Color Management Systems
Try using the ICM (Windows 95 or 98) or ColorSync (Macintosh) setting
To print a file saved in CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black) format with accurate colors, you first need to convert the file to RGB format. Your printer software automatically converts RGB files to your printer's 4-color CMYK format. To print with the correct colors, convert any CMYK-format input files to RGB format before printing. For the best results, create your original print files in the RGB color space.
Return to the indexQ: The quality of my printed output is unacceptable. What can I do to improve this?A: First, if you are using coated ink jet paper, verify that the printable side of the paper is face up, and check the type of paper being used. EPSON brand paper, which is designed for the Stylus C62 printer, delivers the best printed output. If your output is faint, check the printer driver to make sure you have selected a print resolution other than Economy.
The resolution of your image may also be too low. Increase the image resolution using your image-editing software, or decrease the size of the image. When scanning, scan at 240-300 dpi if you wish to print images at their actual size. If you intend to increase the size of the printed image, scan at a higher dpi.
Make sure the Media Type setting matches the paper or media loaded. Also, the Color Adjustment Mode options may be set incorrectly for your document type. Let the printer driver automatically select the settings for the best quality. Verify that you are using the correct printer driver for your printer model.
Make sure your ink cartridges are not outdated. They should be replaced six months after installing them in the printer to ensure the ink is fresh.Try testing the printer with another computer and cable. This will eliminate the possibility of a defective printer cable, or software issue. If you're still experiencing a problem, try replacing the ink cartridges with genuine EPSON ink cartridges.Return to the indexQ: Why is my printer printing colored pages in black and white?
A: Your printer software may be set for black only mode.
1. Click on ‘START/SETTINGS/PRINTERS’
2. Right click on the ‘EPSON STYLUS C62’ icon
3. Click on ‘PROPERTIES’
4. Click on the ‘MAIN’ tab
5. Click on ‘COLOR’ under the ink section
7. Click ‘OK’
8. Try printing
Return to the indexQ: Why can't I print web pages the way they are displayed on my monitor?
A: If you're printing from a web browser, especially when viewing web pages using frames, the pages may not print correctly due to the web page design. This is not the fault of the printer or printer setup. Often there is nothing that you can do to print the complete page as displayed. Check to see if there is a Printer Friendly Version icon on the web page that you can click on. Try a different web browser or a newer version (if available) to see if that helps.
Return to the indexQ: Can this printer be setup to print in Black by default instead of Color?
A: Yes. This setting is found on the Advanced menu of the Print Driver menu.
1. Click on 'START', 'SETTINGS', 'PRINTERS'.
2. Make sure your EPSON Stylus C62 printer is selected.
3. Click the Properties or Preferences button.
(If you see a Setup, Printer, or Options button, click it. Then click Properties or Preferences on the next screen.)
Note: If you click the print icon on your application’s toolbar instead of selecting Print from the File menu, you may not get the option to change the printer software settings before printing.
You see the Main menu of your printer settings dialog box.
4. On the Main tab, click the Advanced button in the bottom right corner of the window. The Basic settings change to the Advanced settings.
5. Select Black Ink Only from the Print Options menu.
6. Select the type of document you are printing:
